Ubisoft is giving away the PC version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which players can claim and keep through Ubisoft Connect until August 13. Video Games Chronicle reports the giveaway is part of a series-wide sale marking the 25th anniversary of Ghost Recon.
That sale discounts earlier entries in the series by up to 95% across Xbox, PlayStation, Ubisoft Connect and Steam, covering the original Ghost Recon through to the more recent open-world entries. The Future Soldier offer is separate: rather than a discount, it adds the game permanently to a player's library at no cost, and requires only that the player log in to Ubisoft Connect and add it.
Ubisoft senior editorial communications manager Chris Watters set out the offer during the company's anniversary presentation.
That is a big discount, but just between you and me, if you want to play Future Soldier on PC, don't buy it. That's because for the next week you can go to the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier page on Ubisoft Connect and claim the game for free. Just log in, add it to your library and it is yours to keep.
A free weekend runs alongside it
Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are also free to play on consoles and PC from today until August 10. Video Games Chronicle notes the distinction between the two offers: the Wildlands and Breakpoint window is a limited trial period, while the Future Soldier claim is permanent.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier originally launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in May 2012, arriving on PC the following month. Its campaign takes the squad through Bolivia, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and Norway, and gives the series a more futuristic treatment than its predecessors. It holds a Metacritic score of 79.
The giveaway closes on August 13. Players who claim the game inside that window keep it regardless of whether they install it immediately.
