Sony Santa Monica and PlayStation Studios have dated God of War Laufey for February 16, 2027. The studio confirmed the date during the game's San Diego Comic-Con panel, where it also said the PS5 exclusive will get a physical release.
Polygon reports that the date drops Laufey into a busy month. February 2027 is already scheduled to hold Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable and Metro 2039, giving the month a concentration of high-profile releases comparable to the September stretch built around Grand Theft Auto 6.
Polygon frames Laufey as the headline release of that month for PS5 owners, as the only first-party PlayStation game among them. The date also arrived at the same Comic-Con panel that confirmed a new Kratos-led God of War game is in development, so Sony used one appearance to set out both its next entry in the series and the shape of what follows it.
Laufey is the first God of War game not built around Kratos. It follows Faye, and reveals that after her death at the start of 2018's God of War she was taken to the Everywhen, described in the game as the afterlife of gods. It is also the first entry in the series to draw on gods from outside Greek and Norse mythology, and Polygon describes its combat as faster-paced than recent games in the series.
Faye is played by Deborah Ann Woll, known for Daredevil: Born Again. She is accompanied by Phranque, a large cosmic cube played by Jack Quaid. Both actors appeared at the Comic-Con panel alongside Cory Barlog and Christopher Judge to talk about the project and their characters.
The same panel confirmed that God of War games starring Kratos remain in development, including a remake of the original Greek trilogy, so Laufey is a departure from the series lead rather than a replacement for him. God of War Laufey launches exclusively on PS5 on February 16, 2027.
