Polyphony Digital will release Gran Turismo 7's Spec IV update in two parts, the first in October and the second in December, the studio said during Sony's State of Play on September 3. The PlayStation Blog described the update as free and as the opening of a run-up to the 30th anniversary of the original Gran Turismo in 2027. IGN reported both halves land before the end of 2026.
Two circuits are included. Sportsland SUGO in Japan arrives in October, and Polyphony pointed to its elevation changes, flowing layout and Dunlop bridge. IGN described the venue as a real circuit in Miyagi Prefecture that currently hosts Super GT and Super Formula rounds, and called it a series debut.
The December half brings back Autumn Ring, a circuit that first appeared in the original Gran Turismo. IGN reported it was last included in Gran Turismo 6 in 2013, and that the Gran Turismo 7 version carries the original layout alongside a greatly expanded one.
Cars, modes and features
Twelve cars are being added across the two updates. The PlayStation Blog said the specific cars would be named at a later date; IGN reported six arrive with each half.
Polyphony listed Online Drift Trials, which it said bring drivers together to test control, precision and style, and Shuffle Races, which offer randomized conditions for online races. The studio also named new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, new progression elements and a Concierge feature for car buying, without saying which update carries each one.
IGN split the same feature set between the two releases. It placed the Car Concierge, used to order used and Legend cars, in October along with a Vintage section covering cars that cannot be bought new in the game, new driving challenges, the new car viewer and a Collector Level cap increase. It put the drift trials, the Shuffle Race and a new difficulty level in the Power Pack in the December half.
Family Mode is part of the December update. Polyphony described it as a starting point for players with different levels of driving experience and as a way to play with family and friends; IGN characterized it as a mode for inexperienced players.
Polyphony said more detail on what each update contains would be revealed at Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3.
