Grand Theft Auto 6 extended look premieres on Netflix on August 27

Rockstar Games will show new Grand Theft Auto 6 footage in a Netflix special before releasing it on YouTube and the game's own site.

Rockstar Games has announced that the next look at Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive as a Netflix special. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on the streaming service on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, according to the announcement Rockstar posted on August 6.

The presentation will not stay exclusive to Netflix for long. Rockstar said the same video will go up on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET the same day, six hours after the Netflix premiere.

Neither Rockstar nor Netflix has said how long the presentation will run or what it will contain. Netflix's listing carries only a one-line description promising an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside new artwork of the game's two protagonists, Jason and Lucia.

Two trailers, no gameplay

Rockstar has released two Grand Theft Auto 6 trailers so far, in December 2023 and May 2025, and has not yet shown extended gameplay footage. Video Games Chronicle notes that the studio has kept the game's mechanics almost entirely under wraps, with no public look at its heads-up display or how the two leads interact with the world around them.

Dexerto reports that the community had expected a third trailer to close some of those gaps, particularly after Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick said a marketing push would begin over the summer. The August 27 date lands roughly three weeks after the announcement and a little over three months before the game itself.

A streaming service as the venue

Using Netflix as the launch venue is a departure for Rockstar, which has previously published trailers on its own channels first. Destructoid described the arrangement as a new approach to video game marketing, and Dexerto noted that the decision has already drawn comment from players who would rather not need a subscription to see the footage first.

The two companies have worked together before. Netflix has added Rockstar titles to its games catalogue, including Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set in Vice City and follows Jason and Lucia, whose story Rockstar's synopsis places inside a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida. Pre-orders opened in June. The standard edition is priced at $80 and an Ultimate Edition at $100, with an upgrade path between them; Rockstar has confirmed that the November physical release ships as a code in a box rather than on a disc.
