Green Goblin will be playable in the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls open beta, Marvel announced just ahead of the test, expanding the beta's roster from 15 to 16 fighters. His arrival carries extra weight for villain players: it puts three-quarters of the Knights of Doom — the game's marquee villain squad — into the test, which runs July 24 through July 26 Pacific Time on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, with access opening at 12 a.m. PDT, 7 a.m. UTC, and 4 p.m. JST.
Doom's own four-fighter squad
Marvel Tokon's roster is built around pre-assembled four-character teams, and the Knights of Doom were revealed as a unit on the PlayStation Blog in June: Doctor Doom leads (voiced by SungWon Cho), flanked by Magneto (James Arnold Taylor), Green Goblin (Steve Blum), and Carnage (Kellen Goff). Their character key art was drawn by artist Yuki Kato and finished by Arc System Works' 2D artists, and their home stage — the night version of Marvel's New York — is one of the six stages playable in the beta.
Each Knight fights differently. Green Goblin is a disruptor, riding his bat-shaped glider for high-speed mobility, harassing with Razor Bats and Pumpkin Bombs, then converting openings into diving aerial assaults. Magneto hurls magnetized objects that remain on stage as debris, stacking a cumulative battlefield advantage the longer a round runs. Carnage transforms his arms into blades and lashes out with symbiote tendrils that leave opponents in a symbiote-infested state, empowering his skills and draining health even through guards — though he is the one Knight sitting out the beta, arriving with the full 20-fighter roster at launch.
What else is in the test
Goblin joins Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker, Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Doom, and Magneto as the beta's playable 16. The test spans an online lobby hosting casual and ranked matches — explorable with 16 chibi avatars — a local versus mode for player-versus-player and versus-CPU battles, a Start-Up Battle mode for learning the core mechanics, a fully fledged training mode, and the first three chapters of The Amazing Guardians episode mode. A PlayStation account and an internet connection are required on all platforms; a PlayStation Plus subscription is not.
The open beta is the last large-scale test before Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launches Aug. 6 on PlayStation 5 and PC. The four-on-four tag fighter — developed by Arc System Works, the studio behind Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games — has teammates share a single health bar, with players starting each match with two of their four characters unlocked and earning the rest by meeting in-match conditions. Arc System Works has said it adjusted the game's systems in response to feedback from earlier closed betas.
