Grand Theft Auto 6 appears set to break from one of the series' oldest habits: carrying every weapon in the game at once. Details tucked into the pre-order page for the $100 GTA 6 Ultimate Edition indicate Rockstar Games is introducing a loadout system that will cap how many firearms Jason and Lucia can hold simultaneously. The evidence comes from a garage feature included with the Ultimate Edition, described as a "weapons locker" that lets players "customize your loadout for any occasion." That phrasing, tied specifically to a storage feature, suggests weapon capacity will be a real constraint in the base game rather than a cosmetic flourish exclusive to the premium tier.
A Weapons Locker Built for Choosing, Not Hoarding
The Ultimate Edition's garage add-on centers on a weapons locker that frames loadout selection as a deliberate step before heading out into Vice City. Rather than simply expanding storage, the feature implies that players will need to plan ahead about which guns to bring on a given job or encounter, since it won't be possible to have the full collection on hand by default.
Goodbye to the Walking Armory
Every mainline GTA title to date has let players carry a functionally unlimited stockpile of weapons, instantly swapping between pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, and rocket launchers mid-mission with no real tradeoffs. That approach has long been part of the series' identity, enabling the over-the-top, anything-goes combat GTA is known for. A loadout cap would mark a clear departure from that formula.
Following Red Dead Redemption 2's Lead
The design mirrors the system Rockstar already used in Red Dead Redemption 2, where the player character could keep only a couple of sidearms plus two larger weapons equipped at any time. Additional firearms had to be stored on the player's horse, requiring a trip back to swap loadouts before a shootout or hunt. When dismounting, players had to decide which weapons suited the task ahead — the same kind of forethought that now looks likely to reach GTA 6.
What It Means for Jason and Lucia
If the system carries over as described, players will have to actually weigh their options before a heist, shootout, or chase rather than defaulting to a full arsenal every time. That's a meaningful shift for a franchise historically built around chaotic, fast-paced violence with no ammunition or carry-capacity friction. For now, the exact strictness of the limit remains unknown. Rockstar hasn't confirmed exactly how restrictive the loadout limit will be, and the studio has signaled that the system could still change as GTA 6's story unfolds. With the game's November 2026 release still months away, Rockstar is expected to ramp up marketing over the summer, which should bring more concrete details on how weapon management — and other systems teased through the Ultimate Edition listing — will actually play out.
