Guild Wars 2's Code of Creation update ends the Visions of Eternity cycle on September 15

ArenaNet's reveal slide lists a six-chapter story finale, the Leyspring Hollows map, a new raid and fractal, and the Rift Amplification mastery.

ArenaNet has named and dated the last update of Guild Wars 2's Visions of Eternity expansion cycle. Code of Creation launches on September 15, MassivelyOP reports. The confirmation arrived in an unusual form for a cycle finale: a single slide setting out what the release contains, with no accompanying blog post, website entry or trailer, which MassivelyOP characterised as an odd sort of reveal.

The headline item is the conclusion of the Visions of Eternity storyline, which the slide indicates runs to six chapters. It arrives alongside the usual end-of-cycle content drop.

What the slide lists

  • Leyspring Hollows, a new explorable map
  • Depths of Cruelty, a new meta event
  • A new fractal
  • A new raid
  • A new convergence
  • The Rift Amplification mastery
  • New legendaries
  • The quarterly Wizards Vault refresh and a set of new achievements

Code of Creation closes the current expansion cycle, and it will be the last release of its kind for some time. ArenaNet has already said expansions will pause for 18 months once the cycle ends before the next one begins, making September 15 the start of a long content gap rather than a bridge to the next expansion.

That gap is not empty. The studio has committed to running a beta for Guild Wars 3 during the window, and to shipping a run of patches to the Guild Wars 2 base game, in part to prepare it for Hall of Monuments 2. Guild Wars 2 players therefore have a defined schedule through the pause even without a new expansion to buy.

With the slide currently the only public source of detail, the specifics behind each of its entries remain unknown ahead of launch. ArenaNet has not described how the story finale's six chapters are structured, what the new raid and fractal contain, how the Depths of Cruelty meta plays out, or what the Rift Amplification mastery actually does. The September 15 date and the manifest itself are, for now, the whole of the announcement.
