A patch for Halo: Campaign Evolved will arrive next week, sometime between August 17 and August 21. No fixed date has been announced. Halo Support set out the five headline changes in a post on X, which Eurogamer reported, and they target several of the complaints players have raised since the game launched a few weeks ago.
- Improvements to Sgt. Johnson to prevent blocked mission progression.
- Jackals can be staggered more reliably when targeting their hands and feet.
- Marines and Flood Marines will fire their Assault Rifles when the Magnified Skull is activated.
- Players can turn off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain.
- Additional stability improvements across multiple platforms.
There is one caveat worth planning around: once the patch is deployed, mid-mission save data is invalidated. Players part-way through a Legendary run over the weekend will want to finish the level before the update lands rather than after it.
A rough launch period
The patch follows a launch that reviewed well but sold unevenly. Eurogamer reports that Halo: Campaign Evolved has not performed strongly on PS5, where ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 outsold the Microsoft title by roughly 16 to one. Series co-creator Marcus Lehto has also publicly commented on how the art style has changed in the remake.
Multiple contractor positions were terminated after the game shipped, in line with the wider cuts at Microsoft's Xbox division, where 3,200 salaried roles were cut earlier this year. Despite those losses, Halo Studios appears set to continue with the Halo 2 remake teased at the end of Campaign Evolved.
Full patch notes have not been published yet, and Halo Support has said it will share them when the update goes live.
