Helldivers 2 joined the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on August 12, making Arrowhead's co-op shooter available at no extra cost to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members. Sony announced the addition alongside the game's Devoid of Liberty update and its Warhammer 40,000 crossover warbond, all released the same day.
The Game Catalog is the on-demand library available to the two upper PlayStation Plus tiers; Essential subscribers are not included. Sony called Helldivers 2 “one of the most popular PlayStation 5 games of all time,” and said it still holds the record for the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game.
With the addition of Helldivers 2, a game that has already been enjoyed by millions of players worldwide, we're further strengthening the value of PlayStation Plus and creating more opportunities for members to discover and engage with exceptional games.
Sony said that as of August 9, 2026, Helldivers 2 had drawn more than 22.9 million players across PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The game launched in early 2024 and has sold around 20 million copies since, Eurogamer reported; it arrived on Xbox in September 2025, where it sold 926,000 copies in its first six days.
What arrived with it
Devoid of Liberty, update 7.0, opens a horror-themed narrative arc built around the Void, a mysterious region of the galaxy warping the planets nearest to it. New objectives task squads with destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, completing data reconnaissance and infiltrating Illuminate structures, with secondary objectives covering the eradication of Void mutations, the extraction of research materials and the option to open a second extraction zone.
Two mutated enemies debut with the update: the nimble Wretch, which moves fast enough to overwhelm weaker fighters and dodge counter-attacks, and the Crusher, which absorbs and deals heavy damage and regenerates if it is not worn down. The rank system also expands to 300 levels of security access, and SEAF platoons now arrive by dropship to fight alongside players, offering stims as medical support.
Sony framed the PlayStation Plus release as an influx of newcomers who will “experience the game's dynamic cooperative gameplay alongside longtime players.” The community was set a collective challenge to eliminate 500 million enemies by August 18 to unlock four Helldiver PlayStation avatars, and a Helldivers 2 Super Merch store opened, selling merchandise unlocked by completing in-game achievements.
