Arrowhead Game Studios has dated the Warhammer 40,000 crossover for Helldivers 2. The Castellan's Creed Legendary Warbond arrives on August 12, roughly two months after the collaboration was first teased during the tenth anniversary Warhammer Skulls showcase, according to reports from Polygon, Rock Paper Shotgun and PC Gamer.
The warbond is built around the Astra Militarum, and specifically the Cadian Kasrkin, rather than the Space Marines. Polygon noted the omission of the Imperium’s most recognisable soldiers, arguing that the rank-and-file Imperial Guard is the closer match for a game whose troops die in large numbers.
Weapons, armour and cosmetics
The primary weapon is a hot-shot marksman rifle with a scope, described as suited to medium and long range. A bolt pistol serves as the sidearm. A meltagun arrives as a stratagem that fires a supercharged beam capable of cutting through armour, and meltamines are a throwable anti-armour mine that can be used as a booby trap.
- A medium Sharpshooter armour set and a heavy Demo-Trooper set, both carrying the True Grit passive: +20 weapon handling and +30% support weapon reload speed
- New vehicle patterns for the FRV buggy, exo suit, shuttle and helipod
- Warbond-specific capes, banners and a player title
Arrowhead has supplied an in-fiction explanation for the gear appearing in Super Earth’s war, framing the equipment as a commissioned tribute.
In honour of the valiant Helldivers who gave their lives in a heroic last stand to defend the peaceful world of Chara during the First Galactic War.
The warbond is bought with super credits, which players can either purchase or earn in game. Rock Paper Shotgun reported that a premium warbond token cannot be used on it. Arrowhead has not confirmed a price; Polygon noted that the previous Legendary Warbond, the Halo ODST set, cost 1,500 super credits.
Polygon reported that Helldivers 2 has held a steady player base since its launch two and a half years ago, when it peaked at 458,709 concurrent players on Steam, with numbers spiking around major updates. Earlier this month Arrowhead announced measures against players exploiting the game to earn super credits faster than intended.
