Hytale will retire its V1 world generator when 1.0 arrives

Hypixel Studios says existing V1 worlds stay playable but will stop generating new chunks, and players cannot carry everything into V2.

Hypixel Studios has confirmed that Hytale will move from its V1 world generator to V2 as the game leaves early access, and has set out what happens to the worlds players have already built. The studio laid out the plan in a blog post, reported by MassivelyOP on August 6.

The post opens as a showcase of player worldbuilding done with WorldGen V2, but the substance of it is the handover between the two generators and the limits that come with it.

Why V1 is being replaced

V1 is the older generator and was built as a prototype in 2017. It is what Exploration mode shipped on for Early Access because the biomes and content were already there. V2 is what we are working on for 1.0, and it is the one we plan to support going forward.

The studio says V2 will replace V1 once a system it calls Orbis is ready, and that the changeover is not a single moment. V2 is arriving in pieces, some of which players have already been using without the switch being formally made.

What happens to existing worlds

Worlds already generated under V1 will remain playable permanently. They will not stay static, though: Hypixel Studios says those worlds will eventually stop generating new chunks, so exploration outward from what already exists has an end point.

Two further limits come with the transition. Players will not be able to create new V1 worlds once early access ends and the game launches, and they will not be able to carry all of their blocks and items across into V2 worlds.

The studio also gestured at a change to an existing area without detailing it, saying that something is brewing that will affect The Echo. Anything players have built there will stay intact, according to the post, but the world around it may change significantly.

Hypixel Studios closed by noting it is still hiring world designers, and suggested that time spent building in V2 counts as practice for anyone considering applying.
