IllFonic, the studio behind Friday the 13th, has removed the Two-Person Power-Up minigame from Halloween: The Game in a hotfix, PCGamesN reported on September 7. The developer attributed the removal to an unintended issue that allowed endgame reinforcement characters to use the minigame.
The minigame was available to two players hiding together in a closet or wardrobe. One could ask the other out, and if both agreed, they pressed buttons through a suggestive sequence to earn a buff called Stronger Together. PCGamesN reported that the game never shows the characters having sex, but that the shaking camera, grunting and a rapidly filling heart meter left little doubt about what the sequence implied.
Players discovered the mechanic during the early-access period for the game's Deluxe Edition, which opened ahead of the full release on September 8.
PCGamesN also questioned which characters could be paired through it. The game's older characters include Dr. Samuel Loomis, who is based on the likeness of the late Donald Pleasence, who died in 1995. The outlet noted that Loomis is in his 50s in the original 1978 film, while Laurie Strode is 17.
Players may have noticed that our latest hotfix removed the Two-Person Power-Up minigame. This was due to an unintended issue that allowed endgame reinforcement characters to engage with the minigame, which was a major oversight on our part.
IllFonic did not say whether the minigame will return. The studio said it has more content and minigames coming, but that its current attention is on the game's immediate needs.
Other minigames remain in the game, including rhythm-style button tapping and reflex-based skill checks. According to PCGamesN, most of these are triggered after a player dies, and they let that player earn buffs that are applied to squadmates who are still alive.
