Jagex has given a closer look at a set of plugins in development for RuneScape, headlined by a quest helper that runs inside the game client. MassivelyOP reports that the studio showed the tool in a live demonstration rather than describing it, and framed the preview as a progress report on the wider update to the game’s plugin API.
The quest helper is aimed at a long-standing habit among RuneScape players. Because the game’s quest list is large and its steps are frequently obscure, players who wanted guidance have generally had to keep that information open on a second monitor. A helper built into the client removes that split, and Jagex presented it as a widely requested feature rather than a novelty.
The plugin is not new to the public. It was one of the highlights of a recent Jagex development blog, and this preview is the follow-up: a demonstration of the same tool working, plus more detail on the plugins around it.
The other plugins shown
Several more plugins were previewed in the same session, each covering a task players currently handle outside the game or by hand.
- A house planner for laying out player-owned housing.
- A tile marker for plotting routes or boss mechanics.
- An agility helper for agility courses.
- A farming timer that tracks planted crops.
Where the API work stands
Alongside the demonstrations, Jagex set out general progress on its API update. That work covers improved submission guidelines and moderation for third-party plugins, and closer collaboration with the plugin creators who build them. The studio also said further plugin previews are planned as the programme takes shape.
What the preview did not include is a schedule. None of the plugins shown carry a release date, and Jagex did not say which will ship first or whether they will arrive together. On the evidence of the demonstration, several of them are close to functional — but for now RuneScape players have a look at the tools rather than a date for them.
