Krafton and the modding platform CurseForge announced a user-generated-content contest for PUBG: Battlegrounds on August 3, with a total prize pool of $95,000 and a commitment to build winning entries into the game, Dexerto reports.
Announced as the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS UGC Contest, the competition is timed to the launch of PUBG: Playgrounds, an in-game hub assembled from community-made content. Entries must be original mods, and are accepted in three categories — Combat, Survival and Creative. Thirty winning modes will be selected across those categories, and Dexerto reports the winners will be built directly into the game rather than left as optional downloads.
How the prize pool is split
Each of the three categories carries its own $25,000 pool, with $10,000 of that going to the entry that tops the category. Alongside the main pools, ten creators can pick up $500 mid-contest prizes for early submissions that stand out, and six entries designated Community Favourites will receive $2,500 each, decided by public vote.
- Three categories: Combat, Survival and Creative
- $25,000 per category, including $10,000 for the top entry in each
- Ten $500 mid-contest prizes for early submissions
- Six Community Favourites at $2,500 each, chosen by public vote
Submissions open on a dedicated CurseForge page on August 12 and close on September 2. There is no cap on how many entries a single creator may submit, so a creator with ten ideas can enter ten separate mods.
The contest follows a year in which Krafton has repeatedly reshaped the battle royale, including work on an extraction shooter spin-off. Routing new modes through the community rather than an internal team is a departure from how PUBG content has typically been produced, and the promise that winning entries ship inside the game rather than remaining optional downloads is the part most likely to matter to players.
Krafton has not said when the winning modes will appear in PUBG: Battlegrounds.
