Last Epoch Season 5, Rage of the Frostborn, will launch on October 1 at 9 a.m. PT, developer Eleventh Hour Games announced, PCGamesN reported. The studio also used the reveal to announce a change at the top of the action RPG's development: founder and studio head Judd Cobler is handing the game director role to Mike Weicker.
Cobler said that as the studio has grown he has found it difficult to balance his duties as CEO with the creative demands of directing the game. Weicker, a founding member of the studio who previously worked as a technical game designer, has hosted Eleventh Hour Games' developer livestreams for several years. He said his focus is on building on what already works in Last Epoch and on communicating more regularly with players. Cobler said the team now numbers more than 100 people and is working toward the Orobyss expansion, planned for 2027. The season arrives after several months without a major update to the game.
Rage of Morditas
The season's headline mechanic, Rage of Morditas, can trigger in both the campaign and endgame Echoes and rewards killing large numbers of enemies quickly. Hitting kill thresholds grants buffs and Bloodrage Charges, which improve the rewards offered when the event ends. Players can then perform a bloody ritual to remove an item type from future reward pools, or a frozen ritual to lock the next rewards to one item type with similar affixes. Each ritual adds a crafting bonus to the items it produces.
Completing enough events unlocks a second chain, and finishing that opens a fight with Morditas, God of Bloodshed. Beating him grants access to a fixed-difficulty pinnacle version of the encounter in a Woven Echo that requires 400 Corruption to enter. Cobler placed its difficulty between Abberoth and Uber Abberoth.
The season also reworks the two item factions. The Merchant's Guild gains a price suggestion tool and an option to lower listing prices automatically over time, while the Circle of Fortune's prophecy rerolling now lets players choose specific rewards, with more choices unlocking at higher ranks.
- Paladin: Radiant Lance, a lightning attack that scales with block chance, replaces Symbols of Hope in the base tree.
- Bladedancer: Dreamslash, a dashing melee attack, takes Synchronized Strike's place.
- Shaman: Summon Tide Elemental, a caster minion, joins the top of the tree.
New rare items announced for the season include the Death Dance boots, which remove the evade cooldown, and the Eternal Font amulet, which uses a potion every second. Eleventh Hour Games said it will publish deep-dives on the season's mechanics, skills and items in the week before launch.
