magic eliminate 3DMAX from the Esports World Cup in Paris

The French side went out in last place without taking a map, a month after knocking magic out of BLAST Bounty.

3DMAX are out of the Esports World Cup, eliminated in last place after a 2-0 defeat to magic in the Group D lower bracket, HLTV reports. The loss came on home soil in Paris and without the French side taking a map, and it reversed a result from a month earlier, when 3DMAX had knocked magic out of the round of 32 at BLAST Bounty.

Dust2 opened with magic giving away an early lead, but they regained control quickly and closed the first half 8-4 on the back of a 7-0 run. Svyatoslav "MaSvAl" Masko led that stretch with a 1.86 rating and a +9.73 percent round swing, according to HLTV's figures. The Russian side kept the pressure on after the switch and finished the map behind individual plays from Abdurakhim "mo0N" Issa and Nikita "tenzy" Kochenyuk.

Ancient slips away after the switch

Ancient looked more promising for 3DMAX. magic could not establish a foothold in the first half, and every gun round they won was answered immediately. That balance disappeared after the side switch: the team led by Vitaliy "sFade8" Marushka went on a dominant CT run and ran away with the map and the series.

Lucas "Lucky" Chastang told HLTV afterwards that 3DMAX had gone into the match confident and with a solid game plan, but that the execution never arrived.

We are obviously incredibly sad and frustrated. We've been working a lot for the last month, and failure is pretty bad. They played pretty well, and we couldn't get our game going.
Lucas "Lucky" Chastang, 3DMAX, speaking to HLTV

The reversal is a pointed one. A month earlier, at BLAST Bounty, the two sides met in the round of 32 and 3DMAX came out ahead; HLTV frames this result as magic taking revenge for that defeat.

magic stay alive in the Group D lower bracket and continue at the Esports World Cup. 3DMAX leave the tournament bottom of their group, without a map won in the series that sent them out.
