According to Polygon, Lucasfilm has set a September 2 release date for The Mandalorian and Grogu on Disney Plus. This announcement was made alongside the kickoff of D23, confirming that the Star Wars film will start streaming in September. The Mandalorian and Grogu initially premiered in movie theaters on May 22, bringing in $345 million at the global box office.
Polygon reported that the film's haul was considerably less than Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which crossed the $1 billion mark in 2020. The critical response to The Mandalorian and Grogu ranged from middling to mostly positive, with some critics noting that the film was not made for long-time Star Wars fans, but rather to cultivate a new generation of fans.
