NetEase Games will upgrade Storm's Sacred Skies skin in Marvel Rivals from Epic to Legendary at no extra cost, the studio said on Aug. 13 after players objected to the skin's tier.
Sacred Skies arrived in the game's latest batch of summer skins. According to Dot Esports, it left Storm as the only character in that batch without a Legendary summer skin, prompting complaints that NetEase answered with the promise of a free upgrade.
What the upgrade adds

- An updated MVP animation
- An upgraded Ultimate effect
NetEase said the skin will still cost $16 after the upgrade, rather than the roughly $22 a Legendary skin usually costs. The studio has not set a release date for the upgrade.
As the upgrades will take some time, please be patient, as we are already hard at work on the above.
Sacred Skies is available until Sept. 11, so players can buy it before the upgrade lands or wait until the new effects are in.
More Storm skins planned
As of Season 9.5, Storm has eight skins excluding Sacred Skies, one of which — Goddess of Thunder — is Legendary. Dot Esports describes that as a decent number, but notes that Storm has drawn fewer skins than some other heroes on the roster and that players have been asking for more attention on the character. NetEase said it wants to ensure more Legendary skins for Storm and indicated further releases across the rest of the year.
The studio also asked players not to harass its staff, saying some had done so while expressing dissatisfaction with the skin's tier.
More summer skins are still due in Season 9.5. The Aug. 13 update added the Krakoan Reels Vol. 2 event with skins for Star-Lord, Black Cat and Winter Soldier, alongside a Pop & Win gacha in the store covering Scarlet Witch and Magik skins.
