Second Dinner has added a draft mode to Marvel Snap, one of the most requested features for the collectible card game. The mode arrived this week as a limited-time event and, unlike the game's constructed play, does not draw on the cards a player already owns.
It's Marvel Snap meets draft-style deck building, meets roguelike style upgrades! Marvel Snap draft does not depend on your collection - you can draft from any available cards in the mode. Then, you get to flex your skills and adjust on the fly with augments that add cool abilities, or leverage stat boosts that help you fight for priority.
The studio said the format levels the playing field between long-time players and newcomers, since a deep collection confers no advantage inside the mode. Augments and stat boosts picked up during a run take the place of the deckbuilding a player would otherwise do before a match.
Entry is not unlimited. Players receive a supply of free tickets, and further runs have to be bought once those are spent.
The first run of draft mode is in the game until September 8. Second Dinner said the mode will return periodically after that date rather than staying available continuously, so anyone who wants to try the format has a fixed window before it rotates out. To mark the launch, the studio is giving every player five complete decks as login rewards spread across the next two months.
The addition lands in what MassivelyOP called a tough year for the game, one marked by layoffs at Second Dinner. The outlet framed the mode as the studio's attempt to give the community a win after those cuts.
