Meet the Unbreakable X-Men, Marvel Tokon's first-revealed squad

Storm leads Wolverine, Magik, and the Danger Room's rogue AI — and all four are playable in this weekend's open beta.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls builds its 20-fighter roster out of five four-fighter squads, and the Unbreakable X-Men came first: the team debuted in the February State of Play showcase that also locked the game's Aug. 6 release on PlayStation 5 and PC. They remain one of only two squads — alongside the Amazing Guardians — fielding a complete lineup in the July 24-26 open beta, where Storm, Wolverine, Magik, and Danger are all playable.

A reduced team with something to prove

The squad's story frames it as a rebuilt roster: many core X-Men were forced off the front lines after a recent battle, leaving Storm to assemble a smaller team against a looming threat. Per the PlayStation Blog reveal, the reborn X-Men press on despite being persecuted as outsiders, fighting to protect even the humans who fear them. Storm commands wind and lightning; Wolverine arrives battle-scarred but unbroken behind his Adamantium claws; Magik blends sorcery with the self-forged Soulsword; and Danger is the X-Men's own Danger Room training AI, now autonomous and walking around in a physical body. Voice casting for this squad has not been officially announced.

The team also anchors a distinctive corner of the game's single-player offering. Episode Mode, the motion-comic story campaign, is written by comics writer Kieron Gillen, and the Unbreakable X-Men's chapter is illustrated by Emanuela Lupacchino with colors by David Curiel — each of the five squads gets its own artist, per the Episode Mode trailer revealed in July.

X-Men players get a home-field taste in the open beta, too: the X-Mansion, which first appeared in the game's earlier closed tests, is one of the test's six stages. The beta runs July 24 through July 26 Pacific Time on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, ahead of the four-on-four tag fighter's Aug. 6 launch from Arc System Works, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel Games.
