Capcom will stop charging Monster Hunter Wilds players to change their character's appearance, according to a statement from the publisher reported by Video Games Chronicle. The change arrives with the game's Version 2 update, which is scheduled to launch alongside the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion in 2027.
Once Version 2 is live, the Character Edit mode will no longer require vouchers, and players will be able to change the look of their hunter and their Palico companion as often as they like. Capcom said the change is not tied to the expansion and will also apply to players who own only the base game.
How the vouchers work now
Since Monster Hunter Wilds launched in February 2025, a change to a player's main character has required a Character Edit Voucher. One free trial voucher is available; after that, vouchers are sold in packs of three for $6.99 or £5.79. Palico Edit Vouchers are sold separately in three-packs, and a combined Character and Palico Edit Voucher pack costs $9.99 or £7.99. VGC noted that the paid appearance changes were not disclosed during the game's review period, and players discovered them after release.
Timeline and compensation
Capcom plans to keep selling the vouchers until December 3, when they will be delisted. On that date, players will receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free, to cover appearance changes in the period before Version 2 arrives.
The delisting date falls one day before the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds releases on December 4, so the vouchers will not be sold on the eShop. Capcom said Switch 2 players will instead receive 10 of each voucher when they start the game.
Players who previously bought any of the paid voucher packs, whether Character, Palico or the combined set, will receive a Special Thank-You Pendant Set made up of a Heavenly Hog pendant and a Beelzeboar pendant, according to Capcom.
