Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault will leave early access on September 2, developer Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios have confirmed, close to a year after the dungeon crawler and shopkeeping hybrid first went on sale.
The 1.0 build adds the conclusion to the game’s story along with new weapons, new armour and the Bomb path ability, which makes defeated enemies explode, Polygon reports.
Moonlighter 2 is the isometric 3D sequel to the 2018 pixel-art original. Players take the role of shopkeeper Will, who raids dungeons for stock to sell and has to fight his way through each one to get it. The loop splits the game between combat runs and the business of pricing and selling what those runs turn up, which is the structure the first game built its following on.
New platforms at 1.0
The launch also widens the game’s platform list. Early access has been limited to Windows PC and Xbox Series X, and Polygon reports that the 1.0 release adds Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 versions. A demo is currently available on every platform.
To mark the date, Digital Sun and 11 Bit Studios are giving away the first Moonlighter on Steam for a limited period. Polygon reports the giveaway is running now and is tied to the sequel’s 1.0 announcement rather than to a wider storefront sale.
A crowded September
Polygon’s review of the early access build called it short of the ideal dungeon-to-shop simulator while crediting the studio with the potential to get there, and the outlet notes the game holds around 1,200 player reviews on Steam at a "Very Positive" rating.
The September 2 date drops Moonlighter 2 into a dense release window. Polygon lists Resonance: A Plague Legacy and Star Wars Zero Company on August 27, followed the next week by The Blood of Dawnwalker, Orbitals and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, with Marvel’s Wolverine, Control: Resonant, Qliphah in Providence’s Shadow and Silent Hill: Townfall all also scheduled for September.
