Polyarc, the developer of the Moss series, is shutting down. The studio posted a message on its LinkedIn page saying it is ending active development, Rock Paper Shotgun reported on September 13.
The announcement came two months after Polyarc released Moss: The Forgotten Relic in July. That release combined the studio's first two Moss games into a single version that dropped the series' original requirement of a VR headset. Rock Paper Shotgun described it as a pseudo-remaster.
Today is the end of an era for Polyarc. After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end. As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other.
In the same statement, Polyarc thanked its staff, describing the years of working together as an honor and the chance to entertain players as a privilege. The post also linked to a spreadsheet of contact details for the entire team, intended for studios that are currently hiring.
A decade of Moss
Polyarc was founded in 2015. Its first game, Moss, launched in 2018 as a VR adventure puzzle game following Quill, a mouse setting out to rescue her uncle. A sequel, Moss: Book 2, arrived in 2022, and both games were met with critical acclaim.
In 2025 the studio released Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, an online competitive strategy game for VR set in the same world. Rock Paper Shotgun noted that the game had very few reviews and did not appear to have sold well.
Polyarc did not give a reason for the closure. Rock Paper Shotgun said that without those details it was hard to tell whether The Forgotten Relic's performance played a part, while suggesting the release had not done well enough to keep the studio running.
