Muramasa: Revenant Blades, the action RPG from Vanillaware and Marvelous, will launch on February 4, 2027, according to an announcement published on the PlayStation Blog. The date was accompanied by a new gameplay video covering the game's sword-fighting combat and its character progression.

Revenant Blades combines Muramasa: Rebirth, originally released for PlayStation Vita, with its side-story DLC Genroku Legends into a single release. The announcement says the game has been rebuilt in high definition, that its sword-fighting has been revised, and that an English voice track has been added.

The game is set in Japan during the Genroku era and follows six playable protagonists: Kisuke, Momohime, Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki. Each has a separate story, and the announcement says the six can be played in any order. One protagonist is possessed by the cursed sword Muramasa, another has sworn to avenge their master, and a third is pursuing love.

Combat and progression

Normal attacks chain into combos, with dashes and jumps used to move between the ground and the air. Players can parry enemy attacks and, with the right timing, deflect ranged ones. Skills covering single strikes, wide-area attacks and ranged attacks are each mapped to a single button press and can be mixed into normal attack chains.

Progression splits along two lines. Kisuke and Momohime forge new swords with the swordsmith Muramasa, each imbued with a skill; Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki instead train to learn skills and to create charms that grant effects to their forms or weapons. Both routes are paid for with souls collected from defeated enemies. Kisuke and Momohime master the techniques of the skill-bearing swords they use in combat, and up to three mastered skills can be assigned for ground combat and three for aerial combat, switched with the directional pad. The more a skill is used, the more potent it becomes.

Supplementary content includes the Scroll, a gallery of illustrations; a Character Viewer for character animations and backgrounds; and a Replay mode. The release also carries a classic mode holding the PlayStation Vita versions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Genroku Legends with enhanced graphics.
