NAVI beat The MongolZ in three maps to reach the EWC playoffs

Natus Vincere closed out Mirage 13-8 to take the Group D upper bracket, sending The MongolZ to a lower bracket semi-final against paiN.

Natus Vincere have booked a place in the round of 16 at the Esports World Cup, beating The MongolZ across three maps for their second Group D upper bracket win, HLTV reports.

Inferno came first. The MongolZ, led by Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren, opened with a 3-0 lead, but the balance shifted as soon as guns came into play: NAVI settled on the defence and took the half 8-4. A 5-1 run after the switch, set up by the second pistol round, was capped by a Drin "makazze" Shaqiri quad-kill that ended the map 13-5.

The MongolZ were first out of the gate again on Ancient, this time on the CT side. Natus Vincere cut into an 0-4 scoreline, but a 1v1 from Zolbayar "tikuak" Chimedtseren kept The MongolZ ahead and they won the half by four rounds.

NAVI split the pistols again and drew level at 8-8 on what was their own map pick, before a strong T-side second half from Dugarsuren "DarkMeister" Ireedui tilted it back. He finished with a plus 7.58 percent round swing and three multi-kills as The MongolZ took the map 13-9.

Mirage settles it

On the decider, Natus Vincere started fast on the CT side, winning the pistol round and running out to 6-1 before The MongolZ clawed the half back level. The pistols were not split for the first time in the series, and NAVI made it count, taking the T side one-sidedly for a 13-8 finish and the playoff berth.

The MongolZ now face paiN in the Group D lower bracket semi-final for a second route into the round of 16.
