Grand Theft Auto 6 took an estimated $260 million in digital pre-orders worldwide during the last week of June, according to figures from analyst firm Newzoo reported by GamesIndustry.biz. Roughly $180 million of that came from the United States and five European markets — the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany and Italy — with the global total extrapolated from those territories.
Pre-orders opened on June 24. Rockstar Games has priced the game at $79.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and is releasing it as a digital-only title. Newzoo expects it to follow a typical sequel pre-order curve, in which pre-orders account for about 5.8% of a game's cumulative total sales.
On that basis the firm forecasts between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in sales by the end of the game's launch week in November, with a central prediction of $4.5 billion. That figure works out to roughly 51 million units at the game's average selling price.
That 5.8% curve is what links the two numbers: the launch-week projection is modelled from where the opening week's spend sits on a typical sequel's pre-order ramp, rather than drawn from any sales data Rockstar has published. Patrick described the late-June window as sitting 21 weeks out from launch, with the bulk of the pre-order period still to come.
Contrary to social media reports, GTA 6 has not done a billion dollars in pre-orders 21 weeks out.
Patrick said the data instead shows $180 million in digital pre-order spend across the US and the five largest European markets in the final week of June, translating to a global opening week of roughly $260 million, with most of the ramp still ahead. He added that even on the most conservative reading — that GTA 6 front-loads harder than any major title in Newzoo's dataset — the result remains a substantial number by historical standards.
The figures are Newzoo estimates rather than sales data disclosed by Rockstar Games, and cover digital pre-orders only.
