Nintendo will hold a Nintendo Direct on Tuesday, August 4, given over entirely to Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, Polygon reports. The presentation streams at 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT on Nintendo's YouTube channel and will run roughly 20 minutes.
A single-game Direct of that length is a deep dive rather than a general showcase, and it arrives about six weeks before release. Fortune’s Weave is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, announced last September, and is the newest entry in a tactical role-playing series that is now 36 years old. It is scheduled for September 17.
What the game is about
Nintendo has described Fortune’s Weave as an intertwining story built around four new leads, each with their own goals and storyline: Cai, a boy set on saving his imprisoned father; Dietrich, a swordsman looking for stronger opponents; Theodora, a queen pursuing a long-held ambition for her homeland; and Leda, a musician seeking revenge.
All four take part in The Dagsion Heroic Games, an event that pits warriors against one another in a Colosseum-like arena. The winner has a wish granted by the Divine Sovereign, the godlike figure who hosts the games — which is what draws four characters with unrelated aims into the same competition.
Between matches, players can explore the capital city of Dagsion. Nintendo says that includes learning new techniques at the training grounds, strengthening bonds with characters in order to recruit them as allies, and travelling outside the city walls to gain additional experience. Recruitment is therefore tied to the relationship system rather than handled separately, and the city functions as a hub between arena matches.
Polygon reports the game appears to be a prequel to 2019's Fire Emblem: Three Houses, though Nintendo has not stated that outright. Tuesday's Direct is the most likely place for the studio to say more.
