Nintendo will take Mario Kart Tour offline on iOS and Android on September 29, 2026 at 11pm PT, ending service for the free-to-play mobile racer six years after its launch. The company announced the closure in July, GamesIndustry.biz reported.
We sincerely thank the many players who have loved and supported the game since service began so long ago.
Nintendo did not give a reason for the shutdown, and said no offline version of Mario Kart Tour will be released. That is a different outcome from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which Nintendo replaced with a paid, offline-capable version after closing its live service in 2024. Mario Kart Tour players will simply lose access.
The wind-down has already started
The commercial side of the game was switched off first. On July 7 Nintendo stopped automatic renewals and new subscriptions for the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass, and suspended the game's in-game currency. Any subscription that would have run past that point ends on August 4, 2026.
From that date, Gold Pass benefits become available to every player at no cost until the servers close at the end of September, leaving roughly two months in which the game's paid tier is free for everyone.
Development on Mario Kart Tour ended in 2023. No new courses, drivers, karts or gliders have been added since the Anniversary Tour finished, so the game has spent its final years cycling existing content rather than adding to it.
