Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, is facing a lawsuit in California accusing it of systematic wage and hour violations. The developer has denied the allegations and is seeking to have the case dismissed.
The allegations
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of Orange County by plaintiff Victoria Turner in the latter half of 2025. According to the complaint, Obsidian engaged in what Turner describes as "a systematic pattern of wage and hour violations." Among the specific claims, Turner alleges that Obsidian failed to pay minimum and overtime wages owed to workers, and failed to provide legally required lunch and rest breaks. As with any pending litigation, these are allegations laid out by the plaintiff and have not been proven in court.
Obsidian's response
Obsidian filed its response to the complaint in March, denying "each and every allegation" made by Turner. The studio is also asking the court to throw the case out. No hearing outcome or further scheduling details have been made public at this stage.
What comes next
Wage and hour disputes of this kind are common in California, which maintains some of the strictest labor protections in the country, particularly around meal and rest breaks and overtime pay. With Obsidian contesting the claims and pushing for dismissal, the case's next steps will hinge on how the court rules on that request. 1vX will continue to follow the case as it moves through the Orange County court system. For now, the dispute remains in its early legal stages, with Obsidian firmly denying wrongdoing. Any resolution — whether through dismissal, settlement, or trial — is still to be determined.
