According to Polygon, Disney is developing a new series based on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a character created by Walt Disney before Mickey Mouse. The series, titled Oswald, is set to release on Disney Plus in February 2027. Polygon reports that the announcement was made by Jon Favreau at the D23 showcase.
Polygon notes that Disney reacquired the rights to Oswald in 2006, after trading ESPN sportscaster Al Michaels to NBC's sports programming team. The character then appeared in the Wii game Epic Mickey, as well as its sequel and 2024 remaster. However, Oswald has mostly been relegated to cameo appearances in other Disney projects since then.
The Oswald miniseries will be a three-part series that blends live-action and animation, similar to Coyote vs. Acme, according to Polygon. The story follows Oswald as he escapes into the real world after an earthquake and befriends a group of middle school kids who help him explore a world he hasn't seen in a century.
