Overwatch changed the teaser silhouettes for two of its unrevealed heroes on the evening of August 11, Esports.gg reports. One of the two belongs to the omnic detective, the character fans have tracked most closely since the artwork first appeared.
The updated image was part of a batch of assets Blizzard released publicly. It shows the remainder of this year's hero lineup, following a season structure in which Overwatch introduced five new heroes in Season 1 in February and has added one per season since. The teaser was last refreshed in Season 2, when Sierra was added, and it never accounted for Season 3's Shion or Season 4's D.Mon.
That changed with the new version, which adds both Shion and D.Mon and redraws the two outlines still to be revealed — the pair players refer to as Hero 54 and Hero 55.
The redraw of the omnic detective drew immediate complaints on social media from players who read the new outline as less obviously robotic. Others argued the character is unchanged: the player ZomBmo posted an overlay tracing the detective's silhouette to make the case that omnic fans have nothing to worry about.
The second silhouette moved further. Its pose, outfit and weapon were all altered, undercutting a running theory that the character is Hivemind.
They went from possibly being an omnic to just another person.
The new outfit has fed fresh theories in its place. Lore specialist Shroomiiee noted that the clothing resembles what a mannequin on the Neon Junction map is wearing, while an account dedicated to the unrevealed hero suggested the character could be Kendra Woods, Sierra's mother and the first super soldier in Overwatch.
Blizzard has not named either hero, published release windows for them beyond the one-per-season cadence, or commented on the changes to the artwork.
