Overwatch’s Wrecking Ball comic reunites Hammond and Winston

Overwatch has released a new comic centred on Wrecking Ball, also known as Hammond. Titled “Left Behind”, it picks up after the Junkers’ attack on Busan and, as Esports.gg reports, ties together three threads the game has been building: Talon’s theft of the anti-Gwishin EMP bomb, the Junker Queen’s bargain with Talon, and Hammond’s history with Winston.

The comic opens with D.Mon trying to force Wrecking Ball’s mech open. When that fails, she tells him he helped Talon steal the anti-Gwishin EMP bomb, and — unable to compel an answer about where it was taken — appeals to his conscience instead.

Mauga’s deal with the Junker Queen

A flashback fills in how the Junkers were drawn in. Acting on Vendetta’s orders, Mauga travelled to Junkertown and spoke with the Junker Queen, learning from Junkrat that the Junkers needed anti-gravity thrusters. Mauga suggested Talon could supply them in exchange for the use of Junkrat’s airship, and outlined Talon’s plan to fly to Busan and take the EMP bomb.

Wrecking Ball told the Junker Queen he did not think Talon could be trusted. She assured him the Junkers would be the ones leaving Busan with the bomb.

Winston and Hammond, back on the same page

In the present, Winston arrives at the facility where Wrecking Ball is being held. Hammond recognises him from the Horizon Lunar Colony, calls him “Specimen 28”, and accuses him of leaving him behind. Winston explains that he built a rocket to escape the colony and had intended to bring Hammond with him, but could not find his friend on “the day of the violence” — a moment he still counts among his greatest regrets. Hammond reveals he stowed away on the rocket regardless.

Winston offers to free him in exchange for information that could stop Talon. Wrecking Ball hesitates, then explains that Talon intends to retrofit the EMP bomb with gravity technology, which could widen its effective range far enough to cover an entire continent.

Winston offers Hammond either a safe return to Junkertown or a place in Overwatch. Hammond turns down the Overwatch offer, and Winston takes some comfort in seeing that his old friend has found a family. When Wrecking Ball returns to Junkertown without his mech, the Junker Queen offers to get him a new one.
