Pantheon Names David Beach as Project Manager

Visionary Realms introduced longtime community member and former Microsoft program manager David "Nephele" Beach as the studio's new Project Manager.

Visionary Realms identified its new Project Manager on Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen in a November 7 post, naming David "Nephele" Beach to the role. CEO Chris Rowan wrote that the appointment follows the studio's funding announcement earlier that week, which he said would mean more team members, more content and faster progress toward launch. Rowan added that the studio was not ready to share every detail yet because it was still filling roles and adjusting its schedule.

Beach is not new to the project. Rowan described him as a crafting enthusiast and part-time designer who has worked on Pantheon's crafting systems, and said Beach also spent nearly two decades in senior project and program management roles at Microsoft. Rowan argued that hiring someone already embedded with the team was an advantage, since existing relationships and detailed knowledge of the project let him start immediately.

Describing the job itself, Rowan said the Project Manager acts as the central hub for a game with many interdependent creative and technical workstreams. Beach's remit covers building the master plan with team leads, identifying risks, managing schedule and resources, and keeping departments communicating. Rowan framed the move to specialized roles as necessary as the studio staffs up, freeing artists, designers, worldbuilders, lore writers and programmers to concentrate on their own disciplines rather than wearing several hats.

A game of this scale is a massive web of moving parts and dependencies, with creative and technical teams that must all move in sync.

What the new process changes

In his own section of the post, Beach said coordination is where the team has stumbled before and was the first problem he addressed after taking the role. He said the studio examined what building a new zone or point of interest actually requires and put a more robust planning process in place, which he said reduces delays and lets the team ship content in a completed state. The team also revisited what has to be in the game for its 1.0 launch and realigned its internal roadmap around delivering those elements first.

Beach singled out art pipelines as one concrete improvement, saying the studio previously started new art assets too late and ended up building areas without all the props and NPCs they needed, causing delays and rework. Under the new process, the goal is to have assets finished before designers and worldbuilders begin an area. He also described a scheduling approach that devotes most of the team to large zones while slotting smaller updates, including touch-ups to existing areas, in between the bigger releases. On systems, he said implementing interlocking gameplay features piecemeal produced a poor experience and made content and itemization hard to balance, so the team has adopted a different approach.

Beach listed what the team was working on at the time of writing: finishing the Wildbloods for a release later that month; wrapping up work and starting quality testing on the first release of the mounts and taming systems the following month; building environments and assembling props and NPCs for Badia de Cara; writing detailed plans for the next three major zones and the next five to six smaller content areas; and preparing a major gameplay update along with additions to character progression for both adventuring and crafting or gathering. He said he plans to publish a roadmap update covering the studio's plans for early 2026.
