An August 22 post from the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team introduced the figure at the center of Black Rose Keep ahead of the content update's launch. Rather than list features, the studio published an in-world account of E'mani Karos, the Thronefastian officer whose rebellion gave the keep its name.
In that account, Karos rose from the poorest class of Thronefast to a leading role in the empire's push to expand beyond the continent of Kingsreach. The post describes him as a champion of the city's overlooked and as an officer whose instincts, charisma and poise drew envy from nobles and rank-and-file soldiers alike, in the War Room and in the field.
That standing collapsed in a single night. By one telling, Karos was caught committing treason and fled. By another, he was innocent, betrayed by a jealous rival and then hunted down. The studio's text is deliberate about the ambiguity, noting that the story has shifted repeatedly across the seven years since. What both versions agree on is that he escaped and turned against his own city before dawn.
Karos then raised the banners of the Black Rose and assembled a guerilla force drawn from experienced criminals and military refugees from around the world. As the group grew, he took an abandoned keep deep in Avendyr's Pass and named it Keep Leon. From those walls, according to the post, the Black Rose has run a campaign of calculated hostility against the crown for close to a decade. The studio leaves the group's actual objective unresolved, saying the aims of Thronefast's most wanted man remain as obscured as the night he fell.
The post closed with practical detail: the keep was scheduled to launch on August 27, 2025, and screenshots of the area were made available on the game's official website.
