Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen performed another full character wipe on Wednesday, clearing early access progress alongside an August 12 patch that overhauls the game's itemization. Developer Visionary Realms told players that level skips are available to those who want them, while discouraging their use.
This week also brings major updates to itemization. Uncommon-quality items throughout the game world have been adjusted. Many rare-quality items have also been adjusted. While tuning will be ongoing, these changes are a big step forward for advancing the game's adventuring itemization as a whole.
The studio frames the pass as a step forward rather than a finished job: it says tuning on both uncommon and rare items will continue after the patch, which is the usual reason a wipe accompanies this kind of change. Loot that has been re-costed across an entire game world does not sit comfortably next to characters who acquired it under the old numbers.
Enchanter gains, critical damage loses
The same patch adds more abilities and masteries for the Enchanter class, one of the specs Visionary Realms has been building out through early access. It also cuts back the very large extra critical damage that bugs had been producing for Wizards, a correction the studio grouped with the rest of the balance work.
Visionary Realms said combat testing continues across the game's first 50 levels, with masteries for the various classes being put through their paces. That testing is what the wipe ultimately serves: a reset population levelling through freshly retuned loot gives the studio cleaner data than one carrying items from an earlier balance pass.
Wipes remain a standing condition of Pantheon's early access. MassivelyOP framed this one as a reminder that buying into an early access MMORPG can mean losing everything and starting over, and Visionary Realms has not said whether further wipes are planned.
