Grinding Gear Games released Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4 on June 25, 2026, a day after previewing it as a major update. The studio said the patch introduces a new Atlas passive tree for the Runes of Aldur league, expanded Expedition customisation, level-scaling unique items and a new currency for Atziri's Temple.
Expedition gets its own Atlas tree
The centrepiece is a dedicated Expedition Atlas passive skill tree. Points for it are earned by defeating each boss in The Grand Expedition questline, making the tree a reward track for the league mechanic rather than a branch of the existing Atlas.
The tree gates a new currency, Liquid Verisium, which immediately starts a Runic Remnant encounter carrying a random Runic Inscription. Players buy it from Farrow using Verisium, but only after allocating a passive on the new tree called Feeling Lucky?. Grand Expeditions now also roll one to two Expedition map modifiers on the area, and the endgame map screen gained an icon marking which Ocean Maps are Grand Expeditions.
Two smaller Expedition fixes landed alongside. Thaumaturgic Fluxes now count towards the "Any Flux" condition for The Artisan Challenge and appear in the Fluxes section of the Currency Exchange, and Grinding Gear Games fixed a bug where runes were not being empowered by power runes propagated from previously unearthed remnants.
Endgame and boss changes
Atziri, the Red Queen, now has a chance to drop one of four new Orb of Sacrifice currency items from her vault. The orbs upgrade corrupted enchantments on an item at the cost of randomly removing one of its explicit modifiers.
Several pinnacle encounters were softened. Grinding Gear Games said a number of pinnacle bosses had their resistances lowered because they were unintentionally too high. The Arbiter of Ash lost some of the chaos damage bonus it gains from plunging its sword into the Chaos Sphere, and the duration of the bonuses it gains from the Chaos and Cold Spheres was cut from 30 seconds to 20.
Elsewhere, The Aberration now stops its arena-wide Meteor Rain when it dies, the Lightless Serpent deals less Burning Ground damage in the Vessel of Kulemak fight, and Uhtred, The Stardrinker and Vorana, Last to Fall all had their cold resistances reduced.
