Daman Mills is the new voice actor for Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4 Revival, Atlus' remake of Persona 4, Polygon reported. The casting was confirmed at a PAX West panel for the game, where Atlus showed a sizzle reel trailer for the character.
Kanji has previously been voiced by Troy Baker and Matt Mercer. Atlus is recasting every role for the remake, according to Polygon, which described Kanji as one of the game's most-discussed characters and an important one for the remake to get right.
Mills is best known as the current voice of Frieza in the Dragon Ball franchise. His game credits include Borderlands 3, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Yakuza Kiwami 3, and he has worked with Atlus several times before, voicing Aogami in Shin Megami Tensei 5, Madam Ginko in Soul Hackers 2, Takaya Sakaki in Persona 3 Reload and Auch in Unicorn Overlord.
Polygon described Kanji as an early example of a prominent video game character exploring gender identity in-game. The outlet also noted that the remake will address the controversy over how other characters, including Yosuke, treat Kanji in the original game.

While he has a more masculine-leaning approach with, like, his whole identity, he also has some femininity to him as well that I really like and admire.
Mills added that for Kanji this leads to insecurities within the story, and makes him a little afraid because it is not necessarily a social norm, before the character gradually works through those trials and grows over the course of the game. He said playing the role had been an incredible experience and that he enjoys the character very much.
Polygon's report, published September 6, listed a February 18, 2027 release for Persona 4 Revival on PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X, with the game available on Game Pass from day one.
