PlanetSide 2 has received a new patch that leads with stability work, according to MassivelyOP. The update ships several client-side crash fixes that the site says should address some of the more common problems players have been running into in the long-running MMOFPS.
The patch also reopens Koltyr, the smaller of the game’s maps, which returns in a separate map pool of its own. MassivelyOP reports that the arrangement is aimed at lower population hours, when the larger continents are harder to fill out.
What the patch covers
- Client-side crash fixes targeting several common stability problems
- The return of the smaller Koltyr map, in its own separate map pool for lower population hours
- Additional summer directive rewards for the Operation: Ares event, earnable until September 2
- New cash shop stock, including rewards from previous summer events
The Operation: Ares rewards are the closest thing here to new content to chase. MassivelyOP says the additional summer directive rewards can be earned from now until September 2, which leaves players a little over two weeks to work through them before the event window closes.
Beyond that, the release is weighted toward the storefront. The site notes that the patch is otherwise full of cash shop items, among them rewards from previous summer events that are now offered for purchase rather than earned in play.
A quiet stretch for the shooter
MassivelyOP frames the release as a modest one rather than a headline content drop, while noting that the crash fixes are the part most likely to matter day to day for players who have been dealing with instability.
The patch also arrives after a quiet spell for the game. MassivelyOP points out that it has been some time since PlanetSide 2 was in the headlines, and that the most recent news of note concerned Tencent taking ownership of the intellectual property.
