The Pokémon Company has confirmed that four more Pokémon are joining Pokémon Unite, announcing Morpeko, Toxtricity, Jolteon and Flareon immediately after the game's championship final, Video Games Chronicle reports.
Morpeko and Toxtricity are due first and will launch in September, with Jolteon and Flareon following on in October. The two Eeveelutions complete that line in the game: once they arrive, every member of the Eeveelution family will be playable in Pokémon Unite.
The announcement was made in front of the Championship Sunday crowd at San Francisco's Chase Center, the home arena of the Golden State Warriors, and drew cheers from the audience as it was shown.
Zeta Division take the last title
Zeta Division won the final 3-1 over the European side Komai, in what Video Games Chronicle describes as a dominant performance. It is the last Pokémon Unite championship of its kind. 2026 is the final year the game features at the event, and it is being retired from the competitive lineup after five years.
Pokémon Unite has been one of the main titles contested in the competitive Pokémon scene, alongside Pokémon Go, the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the Pokémon Video Game Championships. It is not yet known whether another game will take its place in the lineup now that Unite is leaving active competition.
Five years of Unite
Pokémon Unite released on July 21, 2021 as a free-to-play title for Nintendo Switch, and more recently launched on mobile devices with cross-play support. It is a five-versus-five team battle game in which two teams contest control of a map, in the mould of other MOBAs.
The game is developed by TiMi Studio, the Tencent studio that also built Activision's Call of Duty Mobile. Its director, Masaaki Hoshino, previously worked on Pokkén Tournament and has since gone on to direct Pokémon Champions, another competitive Pokémon title.
