PUBG Mobile adds Brainrot Royale to its World of Wonder platform

Tencent Games says the licensed collect-and-steal mode, built with Do Big Studio, is live in the game’s creator platform from today.

Tencent Games has launched Brainrot Royale, a new mode in PUBG Mobile’s World of Wonder creator platform, in a collaboration with Do Big Studio that brings the licensed Steal a Brainrot characters into the game for the first time. The publisher says the mode is available from today.

Brainrot Royale is a collection race rather than a battle royale. Characters are scattered across the map, and players escort them back to a base; each successful delivery upgrades weapons and unlocks access to rarer characters. Anything brought home becomes a target, and rival players can raid a base to steal from it, so matches split between attacking, defending and judging when to over-extend. Defeated characters drop coins that can be spent on stronger weapons. Tencent also describes hidden "beach party eggs" that conceal rewards and larger boss encounters that drop loot.

Do Big Studio provided the official licensing for the characters, which come from the viral Italian brainrot meme format. Named examples include Ballerina Cappuccina, Brr Brr Patapim, Boneka Ambalabu and Lirilì Larilà.

Built on the creator platform

World of Wonder is PUBG Mobile’s user-generated content platform, launched in March 2023, which gives players drag-and-drop tools to publish their own maps and modes without writing code. Tencent says users have produced more than 5.4 million maps on it, and puts peak daily players at more than 8.5 million. Those figures are the publisher’s own and have not been independently verified.

The Do Big Studio deal is part of a push to bring professional studios onto the platform alongside individual creators. Vincent Wang, head of PUBG Mobile publishing at Tencent Games, said the company sees each collaboration as a way to extend the game beyond traditional battle royale while giving creators new tools to work with, and said more studio partnerships are planned.

Every gameplay mechanic had to feel true to the fast-moving, unpredictable nature of the original IP, while creating the kind of moments that players would want to jump back in and experience again.

Brainrot Royale is live in World of Wonder now. PUBG Mobile is free to download on the App Store and Google Play.
