A large batch of previously leaked Rockstar Games files has resurfaced online, and modders going through it are surfacing material from Grand Theft Auto 5's canceled post-launch plans, GameSpot reported. The files reportedly total around 192GB, far larger than the roughly 4GB of GTA 5 source code material that became public in 2023.
According to GameSpot, the data originates from the 2022 breach of Rockstar, in which an attacker obtained a large quantity of development material. Reports at the time said GTA 5's source code had been compromised along with early Grand Theft Auto 6 material.
Liberty City and Agent Trevor
The most prominent find so far concerns a Liberty City expansion that Rockstar planned for GTA 5 and later abandoned. GTA modder TJGM, who has been examining the files, published an outline of the expansion's map reconstructed from shoreline data, along with zones tied to shoreline audio. The outline appears substantially larger than the Liberty City featured in GTA 4. GameSpot noted that the expansion's existence was already known from the 2023 leak, but that the new material gives a clearer sense of its intended scale, and that a development zone in the files suggests Rockstar had begun setting up additional terrain for it.
The files also shed more light on Agent Trevor, a canceled single-player DLC that would have cast GTA 5's Trevor as a secret agent. It was previously confirmed that the project was dropped as interest in GTA Online grew. The resurfaced data reportedly includes interior screenshots intended for the expansion, among them a large mansion, as well as mission names, mission descriptions, and details about the music planned for those missions.
Cut dialogue and development tools
Not everything in the files relates to expansions. TJGM has posted early dialogue from the base game, including an alternate version of a scene between Michael and Tracey from the mission "Friend Request," in which Tracey watches a different fictional TV show than the one that appears in the released game. The files reportedly also contain Rockstar development tools and other material that can be examined independently.
TJGM said some of the images being shared were produced by loading data into an external program used to inspect the game files and capturing what it displayed, rather than being screenshots taken from the files directly. TJGM also claims the files contain images of the GTA 6 map, though GameSpot reported that they are rendered at very low quality. GameSpot described any link between the cut Liberty City content and GTA 6 as speculation.
