Riot Games has unveiled the competitive structure for VCT 2027, introducing a revised Kickoff qualification format, a first-ever tier of guaranteed prize money for non-partner teams, and expanded regional competitions across Asia. The changes touch every level of the VALORANT esports pyramid, from Open Qualifiers to Champions.
A New Path Through Kickoff
The 2027 season introduces a 12-team triple-elimination format for Kickoff events in the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions. Each Kickoff will field eight partner teams alongside four teams that come through Open Qualifiers, giving non-partnered organizations a direct route into top-tier competition. Only the top three finishers at each Kickoff advance straight to Masters, raising the stakes for every match in the bracket. Riot is also formalizing consequences for underperformance: partner status is no longer treated as a fixed seat. Partner teams that fall short competitively will be required to re-enter the ecosystem through Open Qualifiers rather than retaining an automatic slot, a shift that ties long-term standing more closely to results on the server.
Season Structure
The overall season arc follows Kickoff into Masters, then Cup 1, another Masters, Cup 2, and finally Champions, with Open Qualifiers feeding into the pipeline at multiple points along the way rather than a single entry gate. That structure spans 14 separate regional competitions in total. VCT Americas covers North America, LATAM North, LATAM South, and Brazil. VCT EMEA is split into Europe, Türkiye, and MENA. VCT Pacific comprises South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, plus a Wild Card bracket representing the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and the rest of Southeast Asia. VCT China continues to operate under its own visitor-team system, with eight partner teams, two visitor teams, and two Open Qualifier teams.
Guaranteed Money for Non-Partner Teams
For the first time, Riot is attaching guaranteed payouts to qualification milestones for teams outside the partner system, independent of whatever a given tournament's prize pool pays out. Qualifying for a Kickoff or a Cup guarantees $100,000. Reaching Masters guarantees $200,000. Qualifying for Champions guarantees $400,000. Game Changers Championship qualification adds a further $100,000 on top. Riot frames these guarantees as separate from standard tournament prize money, effectively creating a qualification-based earnings floor that didn't previously exist in VALORANT's competitive scene.
Regional Upgrades and Roster Rules
Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are being elevated to dedicated regional competitions in their own right, having previously competed as part of broader multi-country groupings within Pacific. The change gives each nation its own standalone circuit rather than a shared bracket. Riot is also introducing a roster continuity rule aimed at emerging teams: organizations that retain three of their five starting players will keep the competitive points they've already accumulated, protecting squads from losing standing purely because of partial roster turnover.
Riot's Rationale
Announcing the changes, Riot's Leo Faria said: "VCT 2027 is built around a simple belief: the best teams should earn their place every step of the way." Taken together, the changes point toward a system that rewards in-server performance over standing partner agreements, while widening the financial floor for teams still climbing through Open Qualifiers. With Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam gaining dedicated competitions and roster continuity now protected under the new points rule, VCT 2027 reshapes both the geography and the economics of VALORANT's global circuit heading into the new season.
