Roblox to let creators generate games from text prompts on mobile

Roblox has announced Build, a tool that lets people generate basic games from text prompts inside the platform's mobile app. The company said testing would begin rolling out on July 28, alongside a new set of AI-powered tools in Roblox Studio, its established creation suite.

Roblox described the workflow in its announcement: a creator types a prompt such as "Let's make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles," and Build generates a starting point they can iterate on, playtest, and either share with friends or publish to the platform.

The company said its proprietary models are trained on a large set of 3D models and gaming-specific data, which it credits for their ability to generate functional 3D objects and full 3D scenes that integrate with existing Roblox creation tools.

Roblox says discovery will not change

The announcement drew immediate questions about whether lowering the barrier to publishing would flood the platform with low-effort games. Roblox addressed the point directly, saying its discovery systems are designed to highlight games with long-term retention, which it said does not include AI slop. The company added that the quality of games on the homepage is not changing, because a game nobody plays is a game nobody can find.

Roblox also outlined three further AI agent tools planned for Build and Studio in the coming months. Among them are a playtesting agent the company said would surface bugs before a player encounters them, and an experiment agent that identifies tests to run to drive engagement, retention and monetisation.

Rock Paper Shotgun, which reported the announcement, said it had asked Roblox whether games made with Build will be playable on PC or only on mobile. The company had not answered at the time of publication.

The tool is the latest in a run of generative AI features Roblox has added across its user-generated content platform.
