Jagex has confirmed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will leave early access with its 1.0 release on 15 September. The date came in a message about the game's future, attributed to Mod Dutch and published over the weekend, MassivelyOP reports.
The studio used the post mainly to set expectations about what the 1.0 build is, and what it is not. "Our 1.0 release on September 15th is not the end of Dragonwilds," Mod Dutch told players. "Far from it."
What 1.0 closes, and what it leaves open
Shipping into 1.0 is a major milestone for us because it concludes the Kuldra Saga with the players going into the Scorned Wilderness raid and defeating her. It is the end of her story but it's not the end of the story of Ashenfall and how it is still hidden and unknowable to the rest of Gielinor.
Ashenfall, the post went on, "could be a new frontier of civilization, but its ancient magics still block that. This is where we are going to develop our story further and it is going to be a multi-year journey."
Jagex also committed to continued content after launch, listing the categories it expects to expand: "yes, the game world will grow in the future, yes there will be more of everything coming (skills, quests, regions, bosses, enemies, rewards), as we continue into this unexplored stretch of the Sixth Age."
Beyond the Scorned Wilderness raid, the studio has not detailed what the 1.0 version contains. MassivelyOP says more information is expected closer to launch, with a further round at Jagex's Runefest event in October.
