Aspyr is bringing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, packaged together as the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle.
GameSpot reported that the publisher announced the bundle on September 22, the shared birthday of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. It pairs the Game of the Year Edition of Shadow of Mordor with the Definitive Edition of Shadow of War, so both games arrive with their major story expansions and other downloadable content, including story missions, skins, weapons and gear sets.
The bundle costs $69.99, or £62.99 in the UK according to Eurogamer, and is half off at $34.99 through October 6 at 2:59 AM ET. Polygon reported that each game will also be sold separately. Aspyr did not detail technical specifics for the Switch 2 versions, GameSpot said.
What the two games are
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are open-world action games set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Polygon noted that they do not retell The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, instead following Talion, a ranger of Gondor bound to the wraith Celebrimbor, across Mordor and into the fortress assaults of the sequel.
Both games are built around the Nemesis System, under which individual orcs survive encounters with the player, remember previous battles and rise through their own ranks, so that an enemy who kills the player can return as a recurring rival. Eurogamer noted that few other games have implemented anything similar, and that Warner Bros. holds the patent on the system until 2036.
Monolith Productions developed both games. Warner Bros. Games shut the studio in 2025, and Eurogamer reported that an in-development Wonder Woman game was cancelled as a result.
The bundle follows the Legacy Edition of 2011’s The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, which Aspyr released in August. GameSpot reported that the publisher said at the time it planned to re-release more older Lord of the Rings games.
