Sonic the Hedgehog looks set to join Fortnite when its next season begins later this month. Sonic's official account posted a teaser showing Fortnite mascot Peely running through an environment styled after Green Hill Zone, with a caption noting that the "new 'Fortnite' Zone" feels oddly familiar, Destructoid reported.
Epic Games has not published a full roster of collaborations for the season, and the teaser stops short of confirming how Sonic will appear in the game — as a playable outfit, a themed location, or both. Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4: Override begins on August 20.
What has and has not been confirmed
The Sonic teaser is the only part of the season's crossover line-up to come from an official account so far. Destructoid reports that data miners and leakers have pointed to a wider set of gaming collaborations for Override, naming Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Persona 5 and Vampire Survivors among them. None of those have been announced by Epic Games or the publishers involved, and leaked line-ups have changed before a season goes live in the past.
A Sonic crossover would be one of the more conspicuous gaps in Fortnite's collaboration history to close. The battle royale has spent several years folding in characters from film, music, comics and other games, but Sega's mascot has stayed out of it while Fortnite added figures from Marvel, DC and a long list of game franchises.
Destructoid frames the Override line-up as a continuation of Epic's push to position Fortnite as a shared space for other publishers' characters rather than a single self-contained game — a direction the company has leaned into with each successive season.
Fortnite seasons typically arrive with a battle pass, map changes and a set of limited-time cosmetics. Details of what Override includes beyond the teased Sonic tie-in are expected closer to the August 20 start date.
