Space Marine 2 adds a Terminator Sorcerer and Steam Workshop support

Patch 14 expands the Eternal War PvP mode with two maps and weekly rewards, while a separate update opens the shooter to Steam Workshop mods.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has closed out its second year of post-launch support with two updates: Patch 14, which Saber Interactive is calling the Confrontation Update, and a follow-up that adds Steam Workshop support, PC Gamer reported.

Confrontation is weighted toward Eternal War, the game's player-versus-player mode. It adds two arenas — Sanctum, a medium-sized map, and Facility, which the developer describes as one of the most compact PvP maps in the game — along with weekly PvP rewards that hand out cosmetics and other in-game items for playing matches and completing challenges.

A new miniboss for Operations

On the co-operative side, the update introduces the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer, a miniboss that appears throughout Operations mode. PC Gamer describes it as a tough opponent with a broad set of abilities: it can create copies of itself, teleport around the battlefield, and attack players with a laser beam.

Steam Workshop opens the door to mods

The separate Workshop update brings official mod support to one of Saber Interactive's biggest commercial successes, though the catalogue is still small. The most substantial entry is Astartes Overhaul, which was already available on NexusMods and rebalances Operations while adding weapons and customisation options, including three new classes — Terminator, Chaplain and Apothecary — and four weapons, among them an Assault Bolter and an Artifex Bolt Rifle with optional incendiary bolts.

Most of the other mods currently available are add-ons for Astartes Overhaul, ranging from extra execution animations to squad sizes of six or nine players. Outside that ecosystem, Health on Executions makes the game's finishers function more like Doom's glory kills, and Rogue Trader Tyranids reworks the Tyranids to resemble their 1985 models more closely.

Saber Interactive has said it will keep supporting Space Marine 2 for at least another year. The studio has not detailed what is coming next, but PC Gamer reports a roadmap is due on the game's second anniversary in September.
