Nintendo is releasing a free update for Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 that adds four-player split-screen and new multiplayer content, Video Games Chronicle reports. The update arrives on September 29.
Once it lands, up to four players will be able to play together in Battle Mode on a single Nintendo Switch 2 system. That covers local play against one another as well as forming a team to join online battles.
Three new stages
The update also adds three stages to the game, each with its own objectives.

Nintendo announced the update during the Nintendo Direct broadcast on September 9. The same presentation confirmed that the GameCube release Star Fox Adventures has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online library.
A remake of Star Fox 64
Star Fox was released earlier in 2026 as a remake of the Nintendo 64 rail shooter Star Fox 64, developed by the American studio Velan. Video Games Chronicle's review called it a "stunning Lylat Wars revival" that "isn't quite a perfect remake" but is nonetheless "an audio-visual stunner".
Nintendo's arcade shooter remains a classic, and its Switch 2 version adds stunning visuals, a fantastic orchestral soundtrack, and brilliant cinematic touches that elevate the experience.
That review also faulted the remake's handling of smaller details, saying it would have liked "a little more care put into restoring its smaller parts", while concluding that the Switch 2 version is "a fantastic way to discover or revisit a classic".
