Star Wars Zero Company patch 1.1 fixes crashes and 100% hit-chance misses

Update 1.1 also repairs temporarily deleted Beskar-mode saves, two weeks after launch at a studio PC Gamer reports is running on a skeleton crew.

Star Wars Zero Company has received update 1.1, its first patch since launch, and its patch notes open with crash fixes. PC Gamer reported the update on September 10, roughly two weeks after the tactics game released.

Beskar is Zero Company's iron man mode, the single-save setting in which a lost campaign cannot be rolled back, and PC Gamer's writer had been avoiding it while the crashes persisted. The outlet also rates Zero Company as considerably easier than XCOM, the series whose structure it follows.

The patch notes lead with a fix for "various crash issues," followed by two entries covering the game's permadeath-style Beskar mode — one for an issue in which Beskar saves were temporarily deleted, and one for a crash specific to that mode. Together they target the failure that made a Beskar run a gamble, since a mid-save crash could cost a campaign outright.

Update 1.1 also corrects a targeting bug that was visible in the game's own numbers. The notes list a fix for "an issue where shots can be missed, even when the chance to hit is 100%" — a discrepancy PC Gamer's writer had put down to rounded percentages rather than an outright bug.

Overwatch, the tactics staple that lets a unit fire on enemies moving through its cone of fire, is handled only in part. Several of the fixes address overwatch triggering when it should not, including against units outside the targeting cone or behind solid objects. PC Gamer notes that the inverse problem — overwatch failing to trigger when enemies move through multiple cones on their turn — does not appear in the notes.

The two-week gap between launch and a first patch has a reported explanation. PC Gamer writes that Bit Reactor, the studio that created Zero Company, reportedly furloughed most of its staff shortly before the game shipped and has been operating with a skeleton crew since.
