Starseeker's Sinking Reef update adds an underwater region

System Era's Astroneer spin-off gains sea labs, new missions and blueprints, with a fuller roadmap promised for late August.

System Era has released the Sinking Reef update for Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, adding an underwater region and a set of aquatic activities to the early access cooperative extraction game.

Starseeker is a spin-off of System Era's survival sandbox Astroneer and is still in early access. The centrepiece of this update is the Sinking Reef itself, a new region with its own landing sites for players to reach and explore.

MassivelyOP reports that the region arrives with multiple new missions, a set of new blueprints for gear and gadgets, and new sea labs to work through — both inside the Sinking Reef and across other oceanic areas of Tephra, the planet the game is set on.

A limited-time region rally

Alongside the region, System Era is running a "region rally" event that closes on 9 August. It hands out cosmetic rewards to players who contribute to communal milestones, and the studio has said further events of the same kind are already scheduled.

What the studio says comes next

A video published with the update runs through its contents, along with a list of bug fixes and user interface changes, and previews where the game goes from here. System Era describes the Sinking Reef in that video as a "ton of new content" for players to dive into. Two of the studio's forward plans were named in the broadcast.

The first is a shift toward more directed and structured missions, layered on top of the free-roam missions the game already offers. The second is the introduction of what the studio described as an "existential threat," a term it did not expand on. A more defined roadmap is planned for late August.

The preview follows earlier commitments from System Era that it would not abandon Starseeker after putting it into early access. Beyond the late-August roadmap, the studio has not said when the next patch will land or what it will contain.
